MRS PHINK'S HOUSE
The bunker is an architecture of the coastline. A building typology constructed to protect against war and a monument of power, now has shifted roles to show the effects of time and nature’s ability to adapt and overtake. Teaterøen’s bunker was built around 1760-1780 and was functional for all major wars thereafter.
For Mrs. Phink’s House, we have used the relationship bunkers interiors have to its surrounding landscape – complete isolation – as a way to create a completely different universe removed from the surrounding context. We have composed different elements of technology, food, and nature to create a series of sensorial landscape of the Danish coast. Each room within the bunker has been inspired by a different coastal ecosystem – Strand (Beach), Strandenge (Salt Marsh), and Strandoverdrev (Beach Common).
